Howdy y'all!
My name is Elizabeth Sides or "Lizzie", and I am from the Gregory-Portland FFA Chapter, Area X, and Coastal Bend District in the great state of Texas FFA!!
Currently, I am serving as the President of my chapter. During my junior year of high school, I competed in Job Interview Contest at the District Level, Horse Judging Contest at the Invitational and Area Levels, Animal Science SDE at the Invitational, District, and Area Levels, Rodeo at the High school and County Levels, and Officer Elections at the Chapter and Area Levels. My achievements in the cordoroy jacket include: being Chapter Historian and President, making it to the final phase of Area Officer Elections, competeing in SDEs at the Area level, being the MC at my chapter's AgriScience Building groundbreaking, Interviewing about my growing chapter for KIII News, and recieving Reserve Champion Timed Horse, Grand Champion Timed Horse, and Grand Champion Show horse.
Out of the jacket, I enjoy many hobbies. I am a proud member of the Ambassador Comittee in the Gregory-Portland National Honors Society. Until the second sememester of my junior year, I participated in Varsity Choir. I also enjoy playing guitar and piano as well as singing. Spending time with friends and family fills up my few moments of free time. Finally, meeting new people truly fills my heart with joy.
When asked why I wanted to start Small Chapters Doing Big Things, the answer comes extremely easy. As I have aided in helping the Gregory-Portland FFA Chapter grow, I have experienced the trials and tribulations of having limited opportunities in FFA, as well as meeting others with the same issue. I quickly came to know how fortunate I have been to be in a community where agriculture in education is valued. My school and community saw the opportunities available to FFA members and allowed for my chapter to grow. There are so many students who aren't as lucky as I have been. Many chapters are unable to go to camps, conventions, contests, or purchase general supplies. The lack of life altering opportunites leads to the lack of eager students. Learning this information gave me a pit in my stomach. I believe FFA is crucial to young minds growing to successful leaders. I set out to find a solution to this growing issue, and Small Chapters Doing Big Things was born!
If you have reached the end of this long entry, I thank you for getting to know me slightly better. Let's Grow Together!
With Love,
Lizzie
